The Mont d’Haurs Discovery Trail in Givet comprises ten stations covering the town’s history, military architecture, and the vegetation of the site. It begins at Square Albert 1er on Quai des héros de la Résistance in Givet.

Culture

The “Sur les pas de Méhul” tourist trail presents Givet’s heritage from the perspective of its most famous citizen, Étienne Nicolas Méhul. The trail’s information texts are available in French, English, and Dutch. Eight totems and five panels are dedicated to the history of Givet’s historic monuments.

In the former Récollets Church, Étienne Nicolas Méhul, who was born in Givet in 1763, played his first musical notes with the church’s old organist. The Récollectines Convent was founded in 1680 by nuns from Philippeville with the permission of King Louis XIV. The former Récollectines Convent now houses the Pierre Tassin Cultural Center, with exhibition spaces and rooms for cultural events.

The Tour Victoire is a cylindrical tower with three levels and was originally the keep of the seigneurial residence at the southwestern corner of the Castrum de Givet Saint-Hilaire. The Chapel of Bon Secours was built after the First World War and blessed in October 1932.

Nature

Charlemont has been a listed monument since October 24, 1927. The site stands on a rocky promontory in the heart of the Pointe de Givet Nature Reserve and overlooks the Meuse and the surrounding area. A marked outdoor circular trail leads across Pointe-Est and the former village, offering views of the Meuse and Givet.

Seasonal guided cruises offer views of Pointe de Givet from the river.

Traditions

The Foire aux Oignons in Givet is an annual event held in the town’s streets every November 11. It offers a convivial atmosphere with local product stalls and dedicated artisans.
