Nature
The ZNIEFF “Prairies, méandres et noues de l’Aisne à Brécy-Brières” is a type I natural area covering 110.1 hectares. The associated meander area comprises grazed meadows, reed beds, aquatic plant communities of the Aisne River, and a cut-off meander.
The ZNIEFF “Prairies, méandres et noues de l’Aisne à Brécy-Brières” is home to a population of Stratiole faux-aloès, a species that is very rare in France. Between Mouron and Brécy-Brières, the Aisne has remained wild and continues to form numerous large meanders.
The Vallée de l’Aisne Natura 2000 site near Mouron is known for its great ecological richness, particularly its avifauna, and is located in an important regional bird migration corridor. The paths in this area are used by walkers, runners, and mountain bikers.
Culture and history
In the Brières district, the Église Saint-Martin de Brécy-Brières was built around 1540. The church cemetery contains the grave of General Veilande, with an epitaph of around twenty lines. It was listed as a historic monument in 1928.
