Viry: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The parish church of Saint-Barthélemy stands in the centre of Viry; it dates from the 12th century. The church preserves a Romanesque chancel bay, a transept and a Romanesque bell tower. Its Romanesque apse was replaced at the end of the 15th century by a Gothic apse with a flat end.

Culture and History

The parish church houses the Ecce Homo stained-glass window. It was donated by Charles de Saillant around 1525 to 1530 and has been classified as a protected historic object since 22 March 1910. Saint-Barthélemy is also part of the “Chemins du Roman” in southern Burgundy.

The remains of the Château de Saillant have been preserved in Viry. The Château de Saillant was demolished in the 19th century and was the residence of Guillaume Hugonet, the last chancellor of the Burgundian duke Charles the Bold.
