Culture and History
The originally Romanesque Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in the centre of Verzé was rebuilt in 1847 according to plans by the architect Berthier. Its bell tower collapsed on 11 March 1721.
The Château-fort of Verzé was built around 1340 by Simon de Sainte-Croix. Today, only the main building, the demolished round tower at the north-eastern corner and the recessed eastern wing remain.
The Romanesque Chapelle Saint-Criat in Verchizeuil, built in the 11th century, is dedicated to Jesus Christ under the name Saint Criat and became the parish church of Saint-Marcellin in the following century.
