Mellecey combines a historic heritage with winegrowing and destinations in the surrounding region. Those considering Mellecey as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture
The Château de Germolles in the municipality of Mellecey is the main attraction. It is classified as a historic monument and has been awarded the Maison des Illustres designation. Today, the Château de Germolles is considered the best-preserved residence of the Dukes of Burgundy. The tour leads through the cellar, the ducal apartments, the chapels, the gatehouse and the kitchen.
The Romanesque Church of Saint-Pierre has original architectural elements from the 11th and 12th centuries. Lombard bands are visible on its apse and façade and at the base of the bell tower. The Church of Saint-Pierre is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.
The Buet estate is also part of the village’s historical heritage: it was formerly an agricultural grange belonging to Maizières Abbey. Today’s Chapelle du Buet was probably rebuilt on the remains of an older chapel. People from Dracy-le-Fort made pilgrimages to the Chapelle du Buet, which is dedicated to the Apostles James the Younger and Philip.
