On the heights of Mancey, the Roche d’Aujoux offers a panorama over the Saône and Grosne valleys. The Roche d’Aujoux features archaeological remains dating from the late 3rd to the 4th century AD and is now considered an important site in Burgundy for researching rural cult practices during the transition from paganism to Christianity.

Landscape and trails

The walking trail to the Belvédère de la Roche d’Aujoux starts and ends in Mancey and is 9.1 km long. It offers views over the Grosne Valley and the Côte chalonnaise. Access to the Belvédère de la Roche d’Aujoux is via the Chemin de Moines GR76, a ridge trail between Sennecey and Cluny.

The “Les crêtes boisées du Mâconnais” mountain biking route also passes through Mancey: on the return journey south, it runs through the village and continues to Tournus.

Nature and village character

The Chêne du Tremblay, also known as the Gros Chêne de Mancey, is around 300 years old. Its circumference is more than 4.3 m.

The Lavoir de Montat can be reached via a footpath through communal woodland that runs below a bend in the road to the Col des Chèvres. The washhouse is an uncovered, open-air structure from the 19th century and is fed directly by the Montat spring.

Culture and history

In Dulphey, the municipal Chapelle de Dulphey is located near the château grounds and the war memorial. The chapel is round and built in the Romanesque style.

The hamlets of Mancey are home to old architectural monuments. Mancey also has numerous cadoles, traditional stone shelters.

The Château de Dulphey is a fortified house from the 16th century in Mancey, near Tournus in Burgundy.

Winegrowing

The Mancey winegrowers’ cooperative was founded in 1929. The winegrowing of the village of Mancey is entirely focused on producing wines with controlled or protected designations of origin; the former AOC designation was recently renamed AOP.

Anyone who has Mancey and the Roche d’Aujoux on their travel map may want to rent a holiday apartment.
