La Roche-Vineuse combines winegrowing, nature and a diverse cultural landscape. The wine-growing region lies at an altitude of 260 to 350 metres and rises along the slopes of the La Rochette and Montagne de Montceau hills.
Anyone considering La Roche-Vineuse as a holiday destination may wish to find or rent a holiday apartment there.
Nature
La Lande de Nancelle is a natural area classified as an “Espace naturel sensible”. Its landscape includes calcareous grassland, acidic heathland and deciduous forest; it also offers a panorama of the Monts du Mâconnais. Information panels in La Lande de Nancelle explain the local flora and fauna, including the European nightjar as well as reptiles, butterflies and spiders.
The botanical nature trail at the Carrières de la Lie offers the chance to discover calcareous grassland, woodland and a pond. The La Roche-Vineuse circular trail begins in front of the village’s community hall. The surrounding area is also home to the mountains Mont de Pouilly, Tête à l'Âne, Rontécolon and Grande Montagne.
Wine and Crafts
The Musée de la Vigne et du Vin displays more than 2,000 tools from traditional crafts, including winemaking tools. The visit can be followed by a guided tour of the wine cellar and a wine tasting in a vaulted cellar dating from 1790.
Culture and History
A visit to the Carrières de la Lie traces 2,000 years of quarrying history, as well as the history of Merovingian and Gallo-Roman sarcophagi. Chabotte, a château, is located in the area around La Roche-Vineuse. The Chapelle des Moines monastery is nearby. Berzé Castle and Château Saint-Léger are also located in the surrounding area and are considered historical sites.
