The Church of Saint George in Huilly-sur-Seille, formerly called Saint Jean d’Huilly, dates back to the 11th century and stands on a hillside above the Seille. Above its main portal is a wooden statue of Saint George dating from the 15th century.

Culture

History
A document from 981 records the donation of the church of Huilly to the Church of Saint Valérien and Saint Philibert of the monastery of Tournus.
In the Molaise forest are ancient remains from the Gallo-Roman period and the Middle Ages in the form of mottes, that is, fortified earth mounds. The Molaise mottes are described as earth mounds 20 to 30 metres in diameter.
Near the road from Ferme de la Cure to Ferme de Moley, the remains of a motte with a double ditch are still visible. Anguliacus was built on a hillside on the right bank of the Seille.
Geography
The Seille forms Huilly-sur-Seille’s natural boundary with Jouvençon to the south, La Frette to the north, Rancy to the east and Loisy to the west. To the east and south, it borders Huilly-sur-Seille for more than 6 kilometres.
The Pont de Chevreuse crosses the Seille and connects Huilly-sur-Seille with Rancy.
Nature
The Prairie de la Seille is designated as a Natura 2000 site and is one of Burgundy’s notable natural areas. With a little luck, black-crowned night herons, curlews and sandpipers can be spotted on the banks of the Seille.
There are several areas in the lower Seille Valley that are suitable for the breeding of corncrakes.
