Gueugnon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Gueugnon stretches through the hilly landscape of the Charolais region. The Arroux divides the town into an eastern and a western district.

Culture

The Parc du Château d'Aux is home to an open-air museum featuring monumental stainless-steel sculptures. The Château d'Aux itself is a bourgeois residence dating from the late 19th century and is situated in a park that slopes down towards the Arroux. The Église Saint-Maurice was built in the 1870s to replace an 11th-century church and combines neo-Gothic forms with Romanesque elements.

The Musée du Patrimoine Gueugnonnais has exhibition rooms dedicated to the history of Gueugnon's ironworks, from their foundation in 1724 to the present day. A permanent archaeological section focuses on the history of the Vieux Fresne site, a Gallo-Roman centre of pottery production. In its own geology room, the museum presents local minerals and fossils.

In addition to the Musée du Patrimoine Gueugnonnais, a pottery workshop offers public introductory sessions on working on the potter's wheel in July and August. Each year, the Musée du Patrimoine Gueugnonnais season ends with the European Heritage Days.

Those choosing Gueugnon as a destination may want to rent a holiday apartment.
