Culture and History

In the centre of Chissey-en-Morvan stands the Château de Chissey-en-Morvan, whose history dates back to a time before the 14th century. The château has an irregular U-shaped layout with a square tower, three round towers, a residential building and a long ancillary building.

The Château de Buis is also part of the historic townscape. It is an 18th-century château with older origins and was built in its present form in 1781 after an older manor house had been demolished. The Château de Buis is protected as a historic monument; this protection also covers the staircase, the railings, the entrance portal and the dovecote.

The Château de Buis is privately owned and cannot be visited. The Château de Chissey-en-Morvan, on the other hand, can be visited as part of the Journées du Patrimoine. The Église Saint-Martin can also be visited; it is accessible via a local road.

Geographical Setting

The houses in the town centre are grouped along the D980, which connects Autun and Saulieu. Chissey-en-Morvan lies in the valley of the Ternin, into which the Blanot stream flows.

Routes

An old Roman road that ran from Autun to Sens has been preserved in Chissey-en-Morvan. The 2.7-km “Autour de Chissey-en-Morvan” route follows the former Roman road. The route starts at the car park of the Salle des fêtes on Place des Gilandes.
