In the heart of Charnay-lès-Mâcon’s old town stands the Église Sainte-Madeleine, a Romanesque church.

Since 968, a place of worship dedicated to Saint Peter has been documented at the site of the Église Sainte-Madeleine.

The Église Sainte-Madeleine was given its name in the 16th century; later, it became one of the seven so-called “cathédrantes” churches of the Diocese of Mâcon.

The Lavoir des Proux has a central impluvium and is covered by a roof with four sloping sides. At the same time, it is considered one of the most magnificent washhouses in the Saône-et-Loire département.

The municipality acquired the former Protestant temple in 1973 and renovated it in 1987 to make it suitable for activities and cultural events.

Nature

The Domaine de Champgrenon is now a 17-hectare landscaped park open to visitors for walks. The Huilerie Mazoyer on the site is open exclusively during demonstrations of oil pressing. The Domaine de Champgrenon also hosts numerous major summer events. The “Le balcon du Grand Site” route leads through the Chemin de la Tour de l’Ange into the Domaine de Champgrenon.

The Table d’orientation offers views of the Solutré and Vergisson cliffs and has a picnic area.

Things to Do

The rural side of Charnay-lès-Mâcon is bordered by the Voie Verte. The Voie Verte from Charnay is a secure cycle path suitable for family outings, passing castles, vineyards and viewpoints overlooking the Solutré and Vergisson cliffs. In Charnay, it is also the starting point for walks, including a circular route proposed by the Grand Site Solutré Pouilly Vergisson.

The Vélo-gare du Mâconnais at the start of the Voie Verte rents trekking bikes for adults, electric bicycles, bicycles, helmets, child seats and bicycle trailers. “Les Balades Canons” offers an approximately half-day tour on an electric bicycle, covering around 25 kilometres from the Voie Verte through the vineyards of the Mâconnais.

Leisure

Edenwall is a family leisure park with an indoor bouldering hall and 3,500 m² of outdoor space. Edenwall’s outdoor facilities include an adventure course, a trampoline, a beach volleyball court and a slackline.
