Culture and history

Charbonnat is home to a medieval Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Marcel.

Charbonnat has been known since the 10th century; Carbonacum is mentioned in 924 in a document from Saint-Martin d’Autun Abbey.

Things to do

The Circuit de Charbonnat is an 18.2 km hiking route rated “very difficult”. It passes the Étang de Chevannes and then continues towards Plaige. The Salle des Fêtes de Charbonnat is named as the starting point for the Circuit de Charbonnat.

The “En bord de rivière” picnic area offers natural shade, parking spaces, and tables and benches. In Charbonnat, it can be reached via the path beneath the bridge.
