Culture

At the Église Saint-Loup, the Romanesque choir, the apse, the bay beneath the bell tower and the bell tower itself have been protected as historic monuments under the decree of 12 January 1945. The church also contains a carved wooden pulpit dating from the 18th century, during the reign of Louis XV, which was classified as a historic monument in 1928. The stained-glass windows of the nave depict the life of Saint Lupus, the bishop of Troyes.

Since 2022, the Maison du geste has housed craftspeople, craft artists and artists in part of the former sanatorium. The Maison de la transmission du geste in Bergesserin currently brings together 18 economic, craft, artistic or non-profit organisations across 2,302 square metres.

History

The Bergesserin sanatorium was built in a wooded area; construction began in 1932, and work on the present-day buildings resumed in 1946. It consists of two groups of buildings arranged at right angles to each other and connected by a reception hall.

A commemorative ceremony takes place each year in front of the stele. It commemorates the departure of the Commando de Cluny – 4ème Bataillon de Choc from the Bergesserin sanatorium on 20 September 1944, to join the Première Armée Française and take part in the liberation of France.
