Nature and Trails

The return route of the circular trail through the hamlet of Verfay follows a small, quiet road lined with oak and ash trees more than 100 years old. The circular trail also leads to the Merloux stream and along a pastoral path north of Baudemont.

Culture and History

The Croix de Vèvres, also called Croix du Pelon, features sculptures. The Tour de Baudemont, also called Tour du Paradis, is believed to have possibly been a former watchtower of Château de La Clayette.

The BAU1 circular trail passes by the Vieux Bourg, the old centre of Baudemont. There you can see old residential houses with wells and typical Brionnais dry-stone walls serving as enclosures.

The Vieux Lavoir in Baudemont still carries water and is decorated with flowers in summer. The place names Paradis, Pré de l’Enfer and Abcès are associated with the possible location of a 12th-century leprosarium.

The Tour de l’Enfer can be reached via a short detour from the BAU1 circular trail and can be viewed at sunset. The Lavoir Phalendon was a social meeting place where women exchanged news.

Getting There

The La Clayette/Baudemont SNCF railway station offers TER services to Lyon with a journey time of around 1 hour and 20 minutes, as well as several return services on weekdays.
