Azé: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The guided tour of the Grottes d’Azé has no stairs, but does include a gentle incline. In the Grotte de la rivière, an underground river shaped the rock; natural colours are another surprise there. The Grotte préhistorique bears witness to one of the oldest human settlements in Saône-et-Loire.

The Visite d’Azélie includes viewing reconstructed prehistoric objects, making a clay medallion and a demonstration of producing sparks with a fire-making kit. The Visite d’Azélie is interactive and engages several senses: observing, touching, listening and smelling.

During the Visite exploration, a helmet and headlamp are used to relive the exploration that began in 1963. The Visite exploration is accessible from the age of 10; it is not caving and therefore presents no particular difficulties along the route.

Nature

The départementale Espace Naturel Sensible de la Forêt d’Azé is located above the Grottes d’Azé. It is freely accessible year-round and forms a loop of approximately 1.6 km, for which 45 minutes to 1 hour should be allowed.
