Culture and History
The Notre-Dame de Talant church is a basilica built from 1208 onwards under Eudes III. The town of Talant describes it as the first Gothic church in the Duchy of Burgundy; in 1908, it was classified as a historic monument. As a Gothic church dating from the 13th century, Notre-Dame de Talant houses numerous statues and magnificent stained-glass windows designed by Gérard Garouste.
Le Cellier du château is the last surviving remnant of the ducal castle, with traces of eight wine cellars visible on its walls. La Porte Dijonnaise is a 13th-century gate with a drawbridge, protected by two round towers with loopholes and battlements.
Landscape and Nature
The Parc de la Fontaine aux Fées has been subject to legal nature conservation regulations since 1994. These are based on an agreement between the Conservatoire d’Espaces Naturels de Bourgogne and the town of Talant. The park includes visible quarries as well as former vineyards, orchards and grazing areas.
Le Jardin des 5 Roses was created in 2007 on the remains of the former garden of the Maison du Chapitre. It features rose varieties associated with the century in which the neighbouring architecture was built. La Liaison Verte is a 1.4-kilometre walking path through Talant, created through interconnected measures to enhance the cultural heritage and natural areas.
Townscape
The Esplanade Cour-du-Roy is located on the former castle grounds and offers panoramic views of Dijon and the surrounding landscapes. From the Promenade Eudes III, visitors can appreciate the strategic location of La Porte Dijonnaise.
