Culture and History
The Site Patrimonial Remarquable de Semur-en-Auxois combines medieval-style buildings with the remarkable landscape of an enclosed rocky spur. The Porte Guillier is a 14th-century town gate and was classified as a historic monument on 7 December 1923.
Construction of the Collégiale Notre-Dame began in the 1220s with the apse and was completed in the 1470s with the Flamboyant decorations of the portal. Inside, the chapels and triforium contain stained-glass windows, furnishings and sculptures.
The keep, with the Tour de l'Orle d'Or, presents collections gathered over time across four levels.
The Musée de Semur-en-Auxois presents natural history, geological and archaeological collections, as well as works of fine art, across three levels and in eight rooms. It preserves more than 10,000 geological samples and presents the Sinemurian, a geological layer named after Semur-en-Auxois.
Nature and Trails
The Chaumes feature a signposted network of trails that leads around the town, offers viewpoints and allows for a variety of walks from one Chaume to the next.
The “Regards d’artistes” trail offers two circuits: a path of around 3 kilometres along the meander of the Armançon and a 1-kilometre path through the paved lanes of the town centre.
