Culture and history

The Basilique Saint-Andoche has almost sixty surviving and intact medieval capitals. Its large organ, restored in 2003, has more than 2,000 pipes. The Tour d’Auxois, also known as the Tour épiscopale, is the last of the 16 towers that defended Saulieu. The Promenade Jean Macé was laid out in 1735.

The Musée François Pompon displays animal sculptures by François Pompon. It is housed in a 17th-century mansion; its diverse collections illustrate the history of Saulieu and its region.

The Boucle de l'Argentalet is an easy 5.9-kilometre circular hiking trail in Saulieu and follows an old Roman road.

The Boucle du Bois de Brenil passes through the state forest of Saulieu and along its ponds.

The Journées Gourmandes de Saulieu, also known as the Journées Gourmandes du Grand Morvan et des Pays de Bourgogne, are an annual festive weekend.
