Culture

The restored lower forge, the Forge du Bas, is located in the château park. The upper forge, the Forge du Haut, is currently being restored. The Église de la Nativité contains eight consecration crosses dating from the 17th century. The church is a rural Romanesque religious building with a Latin-cross floor plan, a suggested transept, a single nave and a narrower chancel with a broken barrel vault.

History

The original Château de Rochefort, which belonged to the Sire du Puiset, has been documented since 1235. After a fire in 1730, only the dovecote and the fortification walls remained. Les châteaux de Rochefort were expanded in 1896 with stables, a terraced garden, an orangery and a park. The dedication to Saint Maur is rare in the Côte-d'Or département and could indicate an area that once belonged to a monastery.

The Grand prieuré du Val-des-Choux, a historic site, is located in the area surrounding Rochefort-sur-Brévon.
