The Château des Evêques was originally built as a residence for bishops and later served as a Petit Séminaire. Its former estate included gardens, flower beds, terraces, groups of trees, and tree-lined avenues.

Maison Gauthier belonged to Jean Gauthier from 1654 onward, and he began rebuilding it as one of the finest country houses of its time. The 13-year-old Dauphin visited Villa Gauthier in Plombières accompanied by Bossuet, his tutor, and members of his court.
