Morey-Saint-Denis lies along the Burgundy Wine Route in the Côte de Nuits between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. Wine and Village Character
The Morey-Saint-Denis appellation produces almost exclusively red wines from Pinot Noir; the white wines are made from Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. Red Morey-Saint-Denis is particularly suited to game, hearty beef steaks and washed-rind cheeses.
The Caveau des Vignerons brings together 12 winegrowers from Morey-Saint-Denis and offers more than 170 wines, predominantly from the Côte de Nuits. It is located opposite the village church of Morey-Saint-Denis and next to the town hall.
The wine-growing character of Morey-Saint-Denis includes centuries-old cellars, wine estates and houses made of light-coloured stone. Morey-Saint-Denis encompasses five Grand Cru vineyards: Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos des Lambrays, Clos de Tart and Bonnes-Mares, which is shared with Chambolle-Musigny.
Trails and Landscape
The GR de Pays – Le Chemin des Grands Crus runs from Gevrey-Chambertin via Morey-Saint-Denis towards Vougeot. The trail is 87 km long, marked in yellow and red, and designed to be completed in three to five days.
In Morey-Saint-Denis, walks through the vineyards and hikes along wine-growing trails are among the ways to discover the village. Domaine des Lambrays invites visitors to take a walk in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis along its walls on limestone paths.
Mountain Farm at Ferme de la Buere in Morey-Saint-Denis offers horse rides among vineyards, forests and hills. Several wineries in Morey-Saint-Denis offer tours and wine tastings by reservation.
History and Tradition
A marker near the village fountain commemorates the founding of Clos des Lambrays in 1365. Clos de Tart was founded by Cistercian nuns in the 12th century.
The Saint-Vincent Tournante was celebrated on 27 and 28 January 2024 in Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny, with decorated villages, activities and processions of statues.
