Meuilley: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the entrance to Meuilley, along the RD 25 and the Ruisseau du Raccordon, there is a picnic area. This is where the Sentier de Myon begins, offering views across the entire municipality.

Nature

The large Montlissard Forest extends across Meuilley and the three neighbouring municipalities of Chaux, Villers-la-Faye and Marey-lès-Fussey. It is dominated by beech, oak and hornbeam trees; numerous rare plants grow along its edges.

The village lies on the banks of the Ruisseau du Raccordon, where it flows into the Ruisseau de Chevannes. At the foot of Montagne de Montlissard, grazed meadows and wet grasslands extend along the Ruisseau du Lieu Dieu, where the rare common adder's-tongue fern occurs.

In the flood-prone meadows and wetland area of the Meuzin Valley, regular mowing remains a traditional practice. Within the area covered by the biodiversity plan, the occurrence of the fragrant orchid in Meuilley is considered exceptional; Meuilley is known there as the only location where it is found.

The entire municipality of Meuilley belongs to the Natura 2000 site “Arrière côte de Dijon et de Beaune” (FR 2612001), which covers 60,661 hectares. Meuilley also belongs to the ZICO Be04 “les Hautes Cotes de Dijon et Beaune”.

Culture and History

The church of Meuilley was built in the 19th century, after 1827, next to the site of the former church. In Meuilley, 42 documented traditional houses of the Hautes-Côtes have been preserved. They generally have a cellar on the ground floor, living quarters on the upper floor, an additional attic with elongated or square windows, and a staircase on the façade.

Meuilley has two washhouses listed in the inventory of the General Cultural Heritage. Both have a rectangular floor plan, rectangular dressed-stone basins, one open side of the façade, and a roof covering the entire structure.

The Lavoir de Vianne is supplied by the Fontaine de Vianne and is freely accessible. The second washhouse is located at the entrance to Meuilley near the bridge and is visible from the road.

The former Château de Meuilley was built in 1561 on the ruins of an older keep and destroyed in 1834; Rue du Château is now located on its former site. At the end of Rue du Château, remnants of the former stables of the Château de Meuilley from the late 18th century are still preserved.

Geographical Location

The RD 25 crosses Meuilley from east to west; to the north, the municipality is served by the RD 109b and to the south by the RD 115.
