The Grande Forge de Buffon combines residential and utility buildings with industrial buildings to form a unique architectural ensemble and is classified as a historic monument.
The complex includes the residential and operational buildings, including the buildings of the former cement factory, the gardens, the drainage channel with its embankment walls, the remains of a bridge at the upper section of the channel, the washing area, also known as the “Patouillet”, the remains of a Decauville railway, and the dam on the Armançon with its components and foundations.
The garden belonging to the estate is private, landscaped, and cultivated as a kitchen garden; the estate also includes the forge, the private courtyard of honour, and the workers’ housing.
As part of the “Rendez-vous aux jardins” event, short guided tours take place in the area of the Grande Forge de Buffon that is exceptionally opened to the public. They are conducted by the owners.

The Grande Forge de Buffon is located on the Burgundy Canal, where walks are possible.

The signposted 17 km hiking route “Entre canal et Armançon” begins and ends in Buffon. The route is classified as easy.
Boats can moor at the foot of the Grande Forge de Buffon.
The Grande Forge de Buffon can be reached by bicycle from Montbard or from the Yonne via a signposted towpath with picnic areas.
