Baubigny: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Pelouses et Falaise de Baubigny et de Saint-Romain protected area covers 117.5 hectares in the municipalities of Baubigny and Saint-Romain and consists of two separate areas. Dry calcareous grasslands, a forest at the foot of the cliffs, scree slopes and limestone blocks define its landscape. Alpine daphnes, peregrine falcons, eagle owls and wildcats live in the cliffs, scree slopes and forests at the foot of the cliffs.

Hiking

The GR 7 long-distance hiking trail crosses the entire Baubigny area. Parking is available at the church for Circuit 18, the Circuit des Roches. The circular route is approximately 15 km long and takes about five hours; the shorter northern loop between Évelle and Orches is approximately 10 km long and takes about three hours. The Circuit des Roches is included in the PDIPR.

Culture and History

The bell tower and possibly the choir of the Saint-Léger parish church in Baubigny were built in the 12th century. At the end of the 15th century, the porch and portal were constructed, and the choir was also remodelled. The corbels of the parish church portal bear smoothed coats of arms.

The Fontaine au Chêne in Orches, Baubigny, consists of four Gallo-Roman stelae above a spring that feeds a 19th-century watering trough. The Château de La Rochepot, considered a castle, is located in the immediate vicinity of Baubigny. Coraboeuf, also considered a castle, is also located in the surrounding area. In the wider regional area are the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Maizières, considered a historic site, and the Prieuré du Val Saint-Benoît, also considered a historic site.
