Construction of the Chapelle Sainte-Barbe began in July 1489. The site lies on the western slope of the Ellé Valley and overlooks a difference in elevation of around 80 metres. The site includes a path leading to a devotional spring at a lower elevation.
The Chapelle Saint-Fiacre is a Gothic chapel dating from 1450 to 1480 and has been classified as a historic monument since 1862. Its wooden rood screen bears the maker’s mark “Oliv Loergan” and the year 1480.
The Chapelle Saint-Sébastien was classified as a historic monument by decree of 28 December 1934. Its iconography includes biblical themes, motifs from the Roman de Renard and depictions from the contemporary bestiary; it also depicts the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian as well as scenes of village festivities featuring stick fighting and traditional dancing. The years 1600 and 1608 inscribed on the roof structure refer to the final phase of the shell construction.
The Chapelle Saint-Jean and its churchyard were listed as historic monuments by decree of 22 July 1944. The Chapelle Saint-Jean du Faouët was a ducal foundation in favour of the order; its construction apparently dates no later than the 1450s.
The Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption contains two recumbent effigies from a 15th-century tomb adorned with the coats of arms of the Boutteville and Trogoff families. The bell tower, south portal and ossuary of the Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption were listed as historic monuments by decree of 6 June 1933. According to tradition, the small Chapelle Saint-Adrien was built by the de Boutteville family in the 16th century; it is located near the village of Lambélléguic in the municipality of Le Faouët.
Paths and Pilgrimage Tradition
Le Faouët lies on the “Voie de Locquirec ou Moguériec” pilgrimage route. The Circuit des chapelles au Faouët is a walking trail that begins in Le Faouët and is 12.0 km long. Part of its route follows the Ellé River.
