Plourin preserves remarkable evidence of Breton history: churches and chapels, the Pillars of Justice, and the Manoir de Kerenneur tell the story of different centuries.
Culture and History
The present-day Saint-Budoc Church was consecrated on 20 September 1894. Inside, it houses a reliquary of Saint Budoc made of repoussé silver, dating from the early 16th century.
At the Sainte-Anne Chapel, the year 1669 above the entrance indicates when it was built. Part of the building served as an ossuary until around 1860.
The Saint-Roch Chapel is also closely connected with the history of the village and the region. It was built in 1649 after a severe plague epidemic had affected the entire region from 1642 to 1647. For safety reasons, the chapel is only very rarely open to the public; it can be visited only as part of certain events.
The Pillars of Justice
The original Pillars of Justice were erected in 1561 and extended in the early 17th century. The present reconstruction was built in 1977, approximately 400 metres west of the original site.
The Pillars of Justice can be reached via the D68 from St-Renan to Argenton. About 2.5 km after the Lanrivoaré roundabout, turn right onto a small country road opposite the road to Kergroadez Castle. An inconspicuous sign points to the Pillars of Justice; the monument is a further 500 m along on the left side of the road. A large area provides parking spaces and shaded picnic facilities.
Landscape and Historic Estates
The Manoir de Kerenneur stands halfway up a granite ridge between two streams. Visits are possible as part of the concerts and singing events held there, as well as by appointment.
