In Cartravers in La Harmoye is the limeworks known as “Usine de chaux de la Société des fours à chaux de Cartravers”. Limestone has been quarried in Cartravers in open-pit mines since the 17th century. The Cartravers works produced quicklime for liming agricultural soils; hydraulic lime was also produced for construction. The first two lime kilns at the site are documented as dating from the early 19th century and were rebuilt around 1827.
