Canihuel: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The Notre-Dame Church in Canihuel is an example of 15th-century architecture and is classified as a historic monument.

History and Culture

The construction history of the Notre-Dame Church goes back further: the base of the tower and the choir were under construction in 1393. The nave, the low transept and the false transept were completed in 1474.

The historic fabric also includes the Chapelle de la Trinité, also known as the Chapelle de Saint-Drumé, which was built around 1450. The ruins of the former Chapelle de la Trinité were listed as a historic monument by decree of 29 March 1972.

Near the centre of Canihuel are the Sainte-Vierge grotto and the washhouse. The grotto was inaugurated on 9 July 1950. The south wing of the Manoir de la Ville Blanche manor house has been protected as a historic monument since 12 March 1987.

The Menhir de Goresto is 5.60 metres high and made of local granite. It is visible from the public road and was listed as a historic monument by decree of 22 July 1969. The Menhir de Bodquelen dates from the Neolithic period, is made of coarse-grained granite, and is 3.80 metres high, 2.38 metres wide and 2.20 metres thick. In 1969, it was added to the supplementary list of historic monuments.

Nature

The Chapelle de la Trinité lies on the watershed between the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean. The Étang du Pélinec is an 11-hectare body of water on the Sulon.

A walking path runs around the Étang du Pélinec, where fishing also takes place regularly. Experienced anglers can enjoy a Parcours Passion, where they can fish for carp and pike.

Sports and Events

The Pardon de Canihuel takes place every year on the second Sunday in July. Between the municipalities of Canihuel and Le Haut-Corlay lies the Hippodrome du Petit Paris, which offers horse racing as a visitor experience. Today, the facility enables the dressage and training of racehorses; several times a year, it hosts flat races.
