Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Cyr dates back to a small Romanesque structure that was probably founded in the 12th century. In the 13th century, it was extended with a second, larger nave. The interior of the church was initially renovated by volunteers and subsequently by professional companies.

The history of the village also includes the Lavoir de Mousquette and the Fontaine Sainte-Anne: the Fontaine Sainte-Anne is the spring from which the water for the Lavoir de Mousquette originates. The washhouse was restored in 1989 by volunteers from the municipality. Today, it is a flower-decorated memorial site that invites visitors to pause and reflect in silence.

The Moulin d’Arricau is a 16th-century mill on the Louts and has three pairs of millstones. The Moulin de Saint-Cricq is considered part of the cultural heritage; preserving it is important for understanding traditional milling. The permanent arenas of Saint-Cricq-Chalosse also reflect the local history. They were built in 1954, after wooden arenas had previously stood there. Their construction was connected with the residents’ ties to bullfighting culture.

Landscape and Views

The Lac de Poudenx, a recreational area, lies below the Château de Poudenx of the same name. 360-degree views are available, among other places, from the castle park, the arenas and the church. The Croix de chemin de Saint-Cricq-Chalosse is an isolated wooden wayside cross that serves as a landmark for travellers.

Water and Trails

The Lac de Poudenx can be reached by walking along the children’s playground and descending through the wooded slopes of the Allée du Lac.

Circular Route

The Circuit de Pédouhaout is an easy 6.2-kilometre circular route suitable for beginners. The circular route starts at the town hall, where parking is available. Along the way, the Circuit de Pédouhaout offers a view of the Pyrenees mountain range.
