From the Belvédère on Place François Dupaya, located 110 metres above sea level, the view stretches across the hills of Chalosse to the distant pine forest of Landes.
The orthogonal layout of Montfort-en-Chalosse suggests that the town is a bastide. Bastides are newly founded towns that emerged in the south of France from the 13th century onwards.

The Musée de la Chalosse presents a 19th-century estate typical of Chalosse, with a traditional dwelling, furniture, everyday objects and tools, as well as traditional techniques and craft knowledge. At the Domaine de Carcher, the Musée de la Chalosse also presents a 19th-century agricultural estate typical of Chalosse, with a strong focus on viticulture.
The Eglise Saint-Pierre de Josse in Montfort-en-Chalosse bears traces of construction phases from several periods and architectural styles; its foundation may date back to the 12th century. It is fully listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments and forms stop 5 of the discovery tour through the bastide of Montfort.
The Fontaine des Cent marches is reached via the «Cent marches» through a bamboo grove. In the past, water was collected there for the old washhouse.
Things to Do
The Circuit du Louts starts in Montfort-en-Chalosse, is 10.8 km long and runs for 1.6 km along the Voie Verte de Chalosse. For the same circuit, an easy two-hour hike and a very easy 30-minute mountain-bike route are signposted.
Market
The Marché traditionnel de Montfort-en-Chalosse takes place on Wednesday mornings under the market hall. Fruit, vegetables, fish, charcuterie, pastries and takeaway dishes are available there.
