Commensacq: Holiday apartments and houses

In the village of Commensacq stands the Église Saint-Martin, with a history dating back to the 11th century: it is already mentioned for this period in the archives of the former chapter of Dax. The church served as a defensive refuge for the village. Visible loopholes in one of the choir ends and in the south aisle recall this function.

Culture

In the nave, 15th-century frescoes decorate the vault panels; they depict various scenes relating to Adam and Eve. The vault panels of the north aisle bear later frescoes depicting the four Evangelists. By decree of 8 October 1968, the Église Saint-Martin was listed as a historic monument.

Behind the church of Commensacq lies a small landscaped pond with a picnic area. A footbridge leads from there to the Fontaine Sainte Quitterie. According to local tradition, the spring is said to have healing properties for headaches.
