Culture

The Domaine du Pourtaou and the Gloriette form an architectural, furnished and landscaped ensemble created by the Landes poet and writer Jean Rameau (1858–1942). Jean Rameau bought a farm near Cauneille in 1898 and completely remodelled it. In 1928, he built the Gloriette de Jean Rameau in Cauneille. It stands at a viewpoint above the Gaves plain, facing the Pyrenees; Jean Rameau is buried at its foot.

The Roseraie du Pourtaou is a garden consisting mainly of old roses and restored according to the plans of the Landes poet Jean Rameau (1858–1942). It is protected as a historic monument. The Maison Passager is a 14th-century house and bears witness to the fact that Cauneille was an important stop for pilgrims on the Way of St James.
