Things to do
The Sentier de la Grenouille is an easy, family-friendly walking trail along the Lissgraben in Wickerschwihr. The trail is approximately 2.3 kilometres long and takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes on foot. It starts at the RD45-Route de Riedwihr, opposite the fishing pond.
Cyclists can follow the Canal de Colmar along a 14-kilometre stretch from Horbourg-Wihr to Artzenheim. In addition, 23 kilometres of the Canal de Colmar can be navigated by leisure boat from Colmar to Neuf-Brisach via three locks.
Nature
A zone designated as a Natura 2000 site is located along the Canal de Colmar and the Lissgraben in Wickerschwihr. The wetlands and meadows of the Ried Brun around Wickerschwihr invite visitors to observe insects, reeds and wild orchids.
History
The site of Wickerschwihr was settled during the Hallstatt period between 750 and 450 BC. Wickerschwihr was first mentioned in 728; until 1837, the village belonged to the territory of Holtzwihr.
Several bunkers from the Second World War along the road between Wickerschwihr and Riedwihr have been preserved as evidence of the strategic importance of the Colmar Pocket.
Culture
The present-day Église Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur was built between 1861 and 1862 and elevated to parish church status in 1865. After being damaged during the Second World War, it was partially rebuilt in 1956. Wickerschwihr also has several beautiful half-timbered farmsteads.
Traditional crops of the area, including potatoes and cabbage, continue to be cultivated around Wickerschwihr.
Events
A traditional flea market is held in Wickerschwihr. A Christmas concert is held in the Church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur in Wickerschwihr.
