Culture and History

The Protestant church in Stosswihr was rebuilt from 1924 onwards according to plans by Strasbourg architects Robert Voelckel and Charles Wolff, and was inaugurated on 8 August 1926. Its foundation is made of pink sandstone; the church stands on a terrace accessible via straight stairways.

The Ambulanz alpine 2/75, also known as Ambulanz alpine 306, is a rare testament to medical care in the mountains during the First World War. The facility comprises ten small, partly underground treatment and operating rooms on the northern slope of the hill.

The Schantzwasen reindeer farm includes an 800-metre-long educational trail through the forest, where 30 to 40 reindeer roam freely. A visit to the reindeer farm begins with a video screening about the herd and the history of the reindeer farm. There is also a museum hut dedicated to the culture of the Sámi reindeer herders of Lapland, displaying everyday objects, traditional clothing and handicrafts.

The Fromagerie Ferme des Trois Fours offers a guided tour with commentary upon request. Since 2010, residents of Stosswihr have illuminated the Silberwald Christmas Trail. The illuminated walk presents local history through cattle troughs, agriculture, forestry culture, a former tramway and the monks who once founded the Münstertal valley. The Silberwald Christmas Trail follows a two-kilometre circular route starting at the Stosswihr festival hall.
