Sausheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sausheim can be discovered along the “À la découverte de Sausheim” route as a place closely connected to its town centre, waterways and local history. The 6.5-kilometre circular route passes through the town centre and follows the banks of the Quatelbach and the Ill through a rural landscape. It is suitable for exploring with the family and passes several local heritage sites marked by information panels provided by the “Amis du Vieux Sausheim”. The route begins in front of the Church of Saint-Laurent de Sausheim, which was built in 1865 and rebuilt in 1951 after being destroyed during the battles of the liberation in 1944/45.

Culture

The Espace Culturel Dollfus & Noack (ED&N), an events hall inaugurated in October 2008, is part of the town’s cultural landscape. The former Dollfus-Noack factory operated from 1889 to 1991 and produced felt for industry. The former mill of Sausheim on the Quatelbach is also of historical significance, having already existed in the Middle Ages.

The Hansi roundabout in Sausheim commemorates the Alsatian illustrator, caricaturist and poet Jean-Jacques Waltz (1873–1951), who was known as Hansi. Another historical site is the geodetic stele, also known as the Pyramid of Sausheim. It was erected under Napoleon’s rule to serve as the basis for creating a map of Switzerland.

Landscape

The Passerelle des Poètes is a named footbridge over the Quatelbach. The waterway itself was probably developed in the Middle Ages so that it could supply villages and mills with water.

Nature

An educational community orchard is planned for the centre of Sausheim, next to the cemetery, and will be open to all residents.
