Leimbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Saint Blaise Church in Leimbach was built between 1925 and 1927. Every year, the parish celebrates its patron saint, Blaise, on the first Sunday in February. The annual celebration of Saint Blaise includes the faithful drinking blessed wine from the patron saint’s relic.

Culture and History

The Notre-Dame de la Heiden Chapel was built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Formerly a pilgrimage chapel, it was enlarged in 1840. A statue of the Virgin Mary can be venerated in the chapel.

At the exit of Leimbach in the direction of Rammersmatt, the ruins of the former Saint Blaise Church lie in the Gottesthal Valley. They include a Romanesque portal porch from this early construction phase. The former Saint Blaise Church is first mentioned in 1181.

Paths and Landscape

The “Sentier viticole du Gottestal” is a very easy 3.5-kilometre hike that takes about an hour. The trail offers a 360-degree view of the Grand Cru du Rangen, neighbouring vineyards and the Alsatian plain.

Another hike is called “Balade les 3 chênes et l'oratoire de la Vierge”. It leads from the cemetery of the church ruins in Leimbach to a forest oratory.

Wine

At the Obere-Heiden site, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are grown on around six hectares for the production of Crémant. The grapes from the Kalkgruben site in the vineyards of Leimbach are used for the Pinot Gris “Clos Gottestal”. The vineyards of Leimbach are accessible all year round.
