Kiffis is situated at an altitude of 575 metres on the southern slope of the Blochmont. South of the village, the Lucelle flows along the bottom of a syncline.

Culture and History

The parish church of Saint-Pierre, Saint-Paul in Kiffis was built between 1817 and 1820. Its architecture includes a projecting bell tower, a single-nave building with two bays, and a rounded chancel termination made possibly of limestone masonry.

The Château du Blochmont is also part of the history of the village and its surroundings: on 2 May 1449, it was looted, set on fire and demolished. Les Forges is a district of Kiffis associated with the history of industry.

Nature

The Grotte du Saalhof is one of the area’s distinctive landscape features. It is located 200 metres south of the farmsteads of the same name and is 32 metres long. The sinkholes of Fluhberg are between 2 and 30 metres deep.

Active Pursuits

At Ferme équestre Zum Blaue, there is an outdoor riding arena, an indoor riding hall, a PTV course and around twenty horses. They are suitable for both classical riding and trail riding. The activities offered include horse rides, one- or multi-day trail rides, courses and training sessions.

Ferme du Hornihof is home to the La Montagne Bleue breeding centre. On Sundays and public holidays, free guided tours of the llama breeding facility and the Central Asian Shepherd dog breeding facility are available from 3 to 5 p.m. Prior contact is required to confirm attendance. For groups, paid tours and llama walks are available by arrangement.

Ferme du Hornihof can be reached from the Col du Blochmont via a forest path marked with a red cross. The Kiffis–Hornihof hike follows red-cross markings from the Col du Blochmont before descending towards Kiffis.

A specific cycling route is also signposted: the Petit Tour du Jura Alsacien gravel circuit runs along the Swiss border and the Lucelle on a white-marked trail to Kiffis.
