The Château de Heidwiller is protected as a historic monument. This includes the terrace, the castle park including archaeological remains, and the entrance portal with its wrought-iron gate. The protection was established by a decree dated February 14, 1996.

There may have been a moated castle at Château de Heidwiller as early as the 12th century; its existence is documented for the 14th century. In 1795, the château was sold as national property and subsequently served, in turn, as a prison for suspects from the Altkirch area, a factory, and a school.

A predecessor church of the Église Saints-Pierre-et-Paul de Heidwiller is documented as early as 977. The choir and bell tower located in the east are the only surviving parts of the medieval Église Saints-Pierre-et-Paul de Heidwiller; the church was rebuilt again in 1470. In 1768, the side chapels were removed to build a new nave. In 1878, the church was extended westward by one bay, with a new choir and a sacristy.

In the vicinity of Heidwiller are the Cité du Train museum, the Belvédère observation tower viewpoint, and the Cité de l'Automobile museum. The Saint-Morand Church and the Chapelle Church are located in the immediate vicinity of Heidwiller.

Landscape

Part of the Schoenholz forest lies within the municipality of Heidwiller. The forest was an important battlefield during the First World War.

Hiking and cycling

The Circuit du Haulenwald circular trail in the Illfurth–Tagolsheim–Heidwiller area is a 6.5-kilometre hiking trail with 100 metres of elevation gain and a stated walking time of two hours.

In the area on the Heidwiller side of the First World War front, the Circuit du Haulenwald leads to several bunkers, including ammunition depots, observation posts, and artillery positions. The trail also leads to a gun emplacement for a large gun and to several casemates.

The Rhine–Rhône Canal runs west of the Château de Heidwiller; the EuroVelo 6 cycle route runs along it.
