Landscape and paths
From the lower part of the village, the Sentier Émile Hertzog leads via Obersolberg and Erschlitt to Buchwald at the foot of the Petit Ballon. The Sentier Émile Hertzog is also accessible to everyone and runs from the village northwards to the first foothills of the Petit Ballon.
Culture and village character
The farmstead at 36 rue Principale dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. Its residential building consists of rendered granite rubble masonry; the ground-floor windows have pink sandstone surrounds, while the windows on the upper floor and in the attic have oak frames.
In the centre of Eschbach-au-Val, there are traditional houses dating from the 18th century. The Dorfhüss (village house – function hall) offers an unobstructed view of the mountain ridges of the petite Vallée de Munster.
History and local traditions
Opposite the town hall stands a former 19th-century washhouse topped by an elegant bell tower. It served as a communal place in the village where women boiled, beat, scrubbed and washed laundry and chatted.
The mairie-école of Eschbach-au-Val was built in 1862 and is listed in the inventory. The campanile of the mairie-école, which had been destroyed by bombardment in 1915, was restored.
Eschbach-au-Val has a traditional St John’s bonfire. The village also presents an Advent sales exhibition of “100% local crafts”.
