Bitschwiller-Lès-Thann: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The “Circuit des 2 Vallons”, a local circular trail approximately 4.5 kilometres long, begins in Bitschwiller-lès-Thann. Created with the support of the Club Vosgien de Thann, it connects the path along the Kerlenbach with the path along the Allenbourn.

Hiking and Trails

In Bitschwiller-lès-Thann, the Club Vosgien leads the “À la rencontre des chamois” hike over 13.5 kilometres and 564 metres of ascent. Hiking trails beginning in the village make mountain hikes possible on both sides of the Thur Valley and lead to remarkable viewpoints.

At the Ferme-Auberge du Thannerhubel, the “Entre les alignements de pierres” hike takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and includes 165 metres of positive elevation gain. From the Ferme-auberge du Thannerhubel towards the Massif du Rossberg, paths run through aligned stone walls along the municipal boundaries.

Culture and History

Construction of the church of Bitschwiller-lès-Thann began in 1838; the church dates from 1839 and is dedicated to Saint Alphonse. It is known for its Callinet organs, which can be heard at concerts in August.

The steam whistle known as “Dampf’pfifla” was invented in Bitschwiller-lès-Thann. In connection with the year 1836, the village was known for locomotive manufacturing.

The Route Joffre connects Bitschwiller-lès-Thann with Masevaux. It was built in 1915 to supply French troops on the front line. The Berthold Monument commemorates a resident of Bitschwiller-lès-Thann who was involved in clearing mines from the Second World War.

Landscape

The Ferme du Thannerhubel lies at an altitude of 1,030 metres, overlooks the Thur Valley and offers a panorama of the Massif du Grand Ballon. The high pastures of the Massif du Rossberg offer views of the Thur and Doller valleys.

At an altitude of 1,165 metres, the Vogelsteine lie in the Massif du Rossberg. They are of volcanic origin and are home to sensitive rock flora. The Massif du Rossberg can be reached on foot all year round.

There is a restaurant on site at the Massif du Rossberg, as well as catering options for groups.

Events

The third edition of “Noël au Village” included a Christmas market on 7 and 8 December 2024, with stalls full of handcrafted creations. “Noël au Village” is planned as a municipal event for 2025 and 2026.
