A prominent landmark in Wolfisheim is Fort Kléber. It was built between 1872 and 1875 under the name Fort Bismarck and, after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, formed part of the fortification belt protecting Strasbourg.
When planning a trip to Wolfisheim, you may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
History
The village's historical character is also reflected in the tower of the Protestant Saint-Pierre Church, built in 1492. The Canal de la Bruche is an 20-kilometre-long waterway with eleven locks, also known as the Canal Vauban. It was commissioned in 1682; its original purpose was to transport sandstone from the quarries of Soultz-les-Bains and Wolxheim to Strasbourg.
Nature
Parc Fort Kléber was created in 2010 on a former military site that was converted into a nature park. The southern courtyard has a fitness trail and exercise equipment for outdoor training. Squirrels, pheasants and mallards can be spotted along the landscaped, hilly paths in Parc Fort Kléber.
Paths and leisure
The one-hour-and-45-minute route “Du Fort Kléber au Canal de la Bruche” runs between Wolfisheim and Eckbolsheim. It starts on Rue du Général Leclerc in Wolfisheim, in front of the Catholic Saint-Pierre Church.
Bois Romain Park has various play areas for all age groups. On the Piste des Forts, Fort Kléber in Wolfisheim is one of the four structures that are now open to the public.
