The Musée Lalique was founded in the village of Wingen-sur-Moder, where René Lalique established his glassworks in 1922; the museum focuses on glass art.

Culture

The Musée Lalique displays jewellery, drawings, perfume bottles, tableware, chandeliers, radiator mascots and vases. An interactive table installation traces the creation of the Bacchantes vase, created in 1927, from the mould to the finished vase using short films, and conveys the changes in the material through touch.

The parish church of Saint-Félix-de-Cantalice was built in 1914, designed according to plans by the architect Zigan, and consecrated on 21 November 1915.

Those visiting the Musée Lalique and the Sentier des verriers may wish to rent a holiday apartment in Wingen-sur-Moder.

History

The rise of early modern glassmaking in Wingen-sur-Moder began with the Neuhütte and Hochberg glassworks, founded in 1708 and 1715 respectively.

The Teutsch Cemetery was probably established around 1875 by Edouard Teutsch, a glass manufacturer and Protestant deputy. The gravestones are arranged around a small central monument and are all the same size and in the same style.

Nature

The Sentier des verriers is an 8.2-kilometre circular hiking trail classified as a historical and cultural-historical hiking trail.

Wingen-sur-Moder is one of the TER railway stations that serve as starting points for hiking trails in the Northern Vosges when travelling from Strasbourg, Sarreguemines, Metz or Nancy.
