Culture and history

The Eglise Notre Dame de Villé was built between 1754 and 1758 by Joseph Elmerich according to plans by the architect Chassain. The Baroque church has a nave flanked by two side aisles, as well as a neo-Gothic choir.

The “Au fil de l’eau” Chemin du Patrimoine runs along former diversion channels. It showcases the early practice of home weaving and the development of the textile industry along the water in Villé during the 19th century.

The former municipal cemetery of Villé is listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments and preserves numerous 19th-century-style graves with wrought-iron crosses and carved steles. In the center of the former municipal cemetery of Villé stands a monumental cross bearing the year 1673. Next to the parish church, the former cemetery lies within the moat that once protected this quarter.

The synagogue of Villé was built in 1904 on Place de la Liberté for the town’s Jewish community at the time. It was restored and rededicated on November 6, 1955.

The Maison d’Ornano forms a historic ensemble comprising a residence, barn, stable, cellar and an extensive orchard. The imposing 18th-century patrician house was once intended to accommodate guests of the Lord of Villé, the Marquis de Choiseul-Meuse.

Activities

The Parcours d’initiation à l’orientation in Villé is a 5-kilometre orienteering course lasting around two hours and open to everyone. It uses a map and clues to find 14 markers hidden in the forest.

The Balade ludique à Villé is a playful tour through the village, supplemented by riddles.

Three versions have been designed for children aged 4 to 12 and for the whole family, respectively.

Villé’s pump track is suitable for BMX bikes, mountain bikes and scooters.

The Roller Skate Park is a recreational facility for roller skating and skateboarding for children and teenagers.

Local life and transport

The Marché Terroir et Traditions features musical entertainment, activities for children and on-site refreshments. The market brings together producers, farmers and craftspeople from the valley, who present regional products made through their craftsmanship.

The regular bus route 510 connects Villé and Sélestat. In Villé, it departs from or stops at the MJC, the market square and the former railway station.
