Culture and History
A prominent part of the town’s history is the first Saint-Rémy Church. It dates from the 12th century; in 1785, part of the building was expanded and rebuilt at its original location. In 1994, Saint-Rémy Church was completely restored. It is also listed in the provisional inventory of historic monuments.
A stylized reconstruction commemorates an optical Chappe telegraph relay. It was moved to the Kochersberg in 1814 and remained in operation there until 1852.
Nature and Trails
The 8.6 km circular trail “Paysages et patrimoine du Kochersberg” leads through the villages of Ittlenheim, Neugartheim, and Wintzenheim-Kochersberg. Its route follows village streets and rural paths and provides access to the Kochersberg’s architectural and historical heritage.
The “Sentier: autour du Kochersberg” hiking trail leads to the 301-meter-high Kochersberg, the highest point in the area, and includes the municipalities of Neugartheim, Willgottheim, and Avenheim. In addition to the hiking trail, two moats of the Château des Evêques have been preserved.
Art and Leisure
La Serre presents contemporary art in Neugartheim in a former agricultural building. The exhibitions are presented in a simple, welcoming setting that differs from the traditionally formal environment of a museum or art center. Each edition of La Serre combines artworks, workshops, meetings, and social gatherings.
The leisure complex by the pond includes a children’s playground with a carousel, seesaws, slides, a large zip line, swings, and other play equipment.
