Culture and History

The Museum of Alsatian Heritage and Judaism is located in a patrician house built in the Renaissance style in 1590. It presents materials on rural life in Alsace from the 18th to the 20th century and includes a section on rural Judaism in Alsace.

The monastery on Mont Sindelsberg was founded in 1115 and consecrated in 1137. The Saint-Denis Chapel has a six-part vault built around 1225, which is considered the oldest known example of its kind in Alsace.

The Circuit des maisons remarquables comprises 24 stops and passes through various periods from the Middle Ages to the first half of the 20th century. The “In the Footsteps of Marmoutier’s Judaism” tour is a two-hour walk that conveys more than 700 years of Jewish history in Marmoutier.

Paths and Landscape

The Tannenwald trails offer opportunities for hiking and mountain biking and are suitable for families.

The Circuit des Cormiers leads to young service trees, a remarkable tree, and two trees that are around 300 years old.

La Kopp, which rises to 350 m, features fauna and flora typical of dry, sunny limestone soils. These include distinctive walnut trees and the last remaining vineyard areas.

Organ

L'Atelier de l'Orgue offers a sensory exploration of the history and secrets of the organ. The organ exhibition also covers the history and workings of the instrument, the professions associated with it, and its role in Alsace; hands-on elements and interactive screen games are used for this purpose.

Organum XXI is a disassembled organ that invites visitors to operate and experiment with it. For a different format, L'Atelier de l'Orgue offers the “Mystérieuse disparition” Enquête Game: it is designed for 4 to 8 participants aged 16 and over.

The washhouse in Marmoutier now serves as a place for relaxation, leisure, and picnics.
