The Casemate de Kilstett is a Maginot Line facility built between 1932 and 1934 and a fortification of the third line, known as the village position. Its task was to block the routes between Kilstett and the Rhine forest. A short guided tour is required to view the interior fittings.
Anyone choosing Kilstett as a travel destination and wishing to rent a holiday apartment can include this preference in their personal holiday planning.
Culture and History
The historic Canal Vauban was built in 1707. The Canal Vauban, also known as the “canal des français” or “canal des Pandours”, connected the citadel of Strasbourg with Seltz and Fort-Louis via La Wantzenau. Today, the former Canal Vauban serves to divert floodwater into the fields and provides refuge for animals.
The “Wall of Names” at the memorial honors the 133 victims of the Battle of Kilstett. The Monument de la Garde commemorates the men of the Republican Guard who fought in Kilstett.
The choir of Kilstett church dates from 1844/1845 and contains paneling and lacquered paintings depicting the life of Jesus. There is a sundial made by Laurent Hommel on Kilstett church.
