Wine
Alsace Klevener de Heiligenstein is a still wine. Heiligenstein is known for Klevener, a grape variety unique to Alsace and a local speciality. Since 1972, Alsace Klevener de Heiligenstein wine has had to be bottled in Alsace.
Eight winegrowers offer Klevener in the village. The Klevener grape variety was introduced to Heiligenstein in the 18th century; according to tradition, it is said to have been brought from northern Italy by Mayor Ehret Wantz.
Domaine Heywang offers a guided cellar tour followed by a commented tasting of five wines, including Klevener de Heiligenstein.
Culture and History
The Fontaine de l'Ours is located on Rue Principale in Heiligenstein and is public property. It bears the year 1558 and the coat of arms of Heiligenstein. Its basin is octagonal; a central pillar is crowned by a column with a statue.
The Château fort de Landsberg was built between 1197 and 1200. The remains of the Château de Landsberg in Heiligenstein were classified as a historic monument by a decree dated 25 October 1965. From Heiligenstein, the Château fort de Landsberg can be reached on foot in 45 minutes via a trail marked with a blue triangle.
