Bischwiller: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Maison des Arts regularly presents permanent collections of paintings, engravings, drawings, marquetry and sculptures. The museum is housed in a 17th-century Alsatian building that served as a home and workplace for two generations of local artists; today, it preserves and promotes the town’s historical and artistic heritage. The Maison des Arts offers guided group tours throughout the year, but only with advance booking and for groups of at least 10 people.

Culture

In the centre of Bischwiller, the Musée de la Laub is housed in the former Maison Commune, a 17th-century building. It is largely dedicated to the town’s industrial textile heritage. Its exhibits cover the processing of textile fibres, Bischwiller’s large manufactories and the lives of the workers.

History

The “Redécouvrez Bischwiller” circuit is an approximately 3 km urban walking tour through the town’s history, with 24 stops. At the same time, it is a walk for all age groups through an urban setting with green sections. The Claude Vigée Circuit leads to places in Bischwiller that the poet regularly visited during his childhood and youth, as well as later in his literary life.

Nature

The Sentier des Poètes, known in Alsatian as “Dìchterwaj”, runs through green landscapes. Information panels present texts by Alsatian authors connected with the history and identity of Bischwiller. The trail also highlights the regional language, Alsatian literature and Bischwiller’s natural surroundings. A guided hike on the Sentier des Poètes, or Dìchterwaj, is led by Sylvie Reff-Stern, the author and creator of the trail, and includes readings, storytelling and discussions.

The Sentier du Ried runs through the wet Ried plain, where grey cranes, wild geese and deer can be observed. The Sentier de la Gravière is a 7.5 km hiking trail that starts in Hanhoffen and passes through wooded landscapes with several bodies of water serving as large watering places for birds.

The Sentier du Bollachgraben is a 5.5 km walking trail. It leads to an attractively designed vegetable-growing area and then on to the edge of the Gries forest; it also includes a small animal park.
