North of present-day Vorbasse, a historical walk of approximately 2.5 kilometres leads through more than 2,000 years of village history. A second historical walk is about 2 kilometres long and covers the period from the Middle Ages to the present day, including the markets of Vorbasse. The two routes have different focal points and make it possible to learn about the development of the village along a manageable distance.

A town walk also focuses on the history of Vorbasse. It starts at the holy spring near Vorbasse Church and explores how Vorbasse Marked came into being. The spring Hellig Legems Kilden is now dried up and covered; a stone in the southern cemetery wall marks its location. Vorbasse Church was probably a pilgrimage church with this holy spring in the Late Middle Ages.

Vorbasse Church itself was built around the middle of the 14th century in the Romanesque round-arch style. A transept and a tower were added at the beginning of the 16th century. This makes the site a special historical point of interest for travellers who wish to combine architecture and regional history.

Forests, lakes and trails for different day plans

Vorbasse Hjertesti comprises four routes through forests, across fields and along lakes. There are benches and playgrounds along the routes. The red route is approximately 3.7 kilometres long and leads through woodland and across fields to a lake. The green route measures approximately 3.8 kilometres and runs through the municipal protected forest at Jægerlund; there are numerous benches along the route and at Jægerlundsøen.

Those travelling with children can include the existing playgrounds and the ten stations of the activity Ulven kommer! in their day’s plans. At these stations, visitors learn about the wolf through movement, history and quiz questions. You need a smartphone with a QR code scanner for the activity.

South of the village lies Vorbasse Shelter Town in a clearing in a wooded area. It has four shelters, a fire pit, a picnic house, a pizza oven and a toilet. Bjergtet is a viewpoint on the Drivvejen with a covered picnic area. Vorbasse Krigshavn is a naturally formed small lake that served for centuries as the town’s fire pond and as a watering place for livestock.

Market tradition and special experiences

Vorbasse Marked has been held since 1730 and is visited by up to 250,000 guests every year. Each year, the market includes approximately 400 to 500 horses, around 650 flea-market traders and more than 200 traders selling small animals. These figures shape a tradition that makes Vorbasse interesting far beyond its historical walks. Another special date is associated with Vorbasse Krigshavn: The corvette LABRI is launched into Vorbasse Krigshavn every Easter Saturday. Around the lake, the history of the landscape meets a vivid maritime tradition.
