Discover Støvring: Lakes, Nature Trails and History
Støvring is a destination for travellers who want to combine nature experiences and local history in one trip. Around the Mastrup Lakes and Juelstrup Sø, you will find trails, views of the water and distinctive landscape features. There is also the Støvring Museum, Støvring Church and insights into the town’s development. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Støvring, you can base your choice of destination on the experiences that are especially important to you during your stay.
Lakes, trails and short breaks in nature
The Mastrup Lakes comprise four lakes with trails and views of the water. The area is described as a recreational nature area close to town, making it easy to include in a day’s plans when you want to alternate between active pursuits and quieter moments in nature. The two Heart Trails offer a specific choice: Heart Trail 1 – Støvring is a 3.15 km circular route around the Mastrup Lakes and Støvring Multihus. It is suitable for a short everyday walk close to town, but is not wheelchair accessible and is not suitable for pushchairs. Heart Trail 2 – Støvring, on the other hand, runs for 5.6 km along the Mastrup Bæk, is close to nature and more hilly. Based on the length and character of the trail, you can decide which route fits better into your day’s plans.
At Juelstrup Sø, you will find a natural area near Støvring with a marked gravel path, benches and views of the lake. The nature base at Juelstrup Sø offers a picnic shelter, a toilet, tables, benches and fire pits with grill grates. There is also a basic overnight site beside the nature base. The lake is home to a rich and diverse birdlife. In the adjoining Cirkelskoven, 25 different species of trees and shrubs grow. An unusual feature is Himmelhunden, a dog-shaped planting based on the dog motif of the Nature Agency’s dog pictogram.
There is also a clearly designated natural area for travellers with dogs: Støvring Hundeskov is a fenced dog exercise area of approximately 10 hectares, with a trail network of approximately 5 km. Anyone who would rather explore the surroundings along a longer connection can consider the Wittrup Trail. This route connects the village of Sørup with Juelstrup Sø. The different types of trails give your travel plans different focuses, without requiring you to commit to just one way of enjoying the outdoors.
Local history in the museum and church
The Støvring Museum is located in the former folk high school building on Hobrovej in Støvring. Historical objects from the local area are displayed there. The Støvring Museum Association presents and communicates around 150 years of Støvring’s history – from farming village to industrial town. Visits are available on Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00; additional visits can be arranged by appointment with a member of the board.
Parts of the furnishings in Støvring Church come from the medieval parish church. However, the large pieces of furnishings date from the 20th century. Alongside its nature trails, Støvring therefore offers a cultural view of older local connections and later changes. If you want to vary your days, you can consider nature, the museum and the church as different focal points for your travel plans.
Choose the right starting point
When searching for a holiday apartment in Støvring, it is worth first deciding on your preferred travel rhythm. For short walks, Heart Trail 1 and the paths around the Mastrup Lakes are the main options; for a more natural and hillier route, Heart Trail 2 is a planning option. Juelstrup Sø adds birdlife, lake views and the nature base to this selection. Those with a stronger interest in local history can put the museum and church on their personal daily itinerary.
